Volvo has always been the crowned king of safety in the automotive world. Volvo invented the 3-point safety belt. Volvo invented the rear-facing child seat and booster cushion. By 2020, Volvo's goal is that nobody will be killed or seriously injured while driving a new Volvo.

What does that have to do with this amusement park ride, and the unfortunate safety expert riding it?

Volvo was inspired by amusement park rides and the range of motions and speeds they can attain to create a robot for simulating off-road car crashes. This allows safety engineers to innovate more quickly, and be able to test their ideas on the fly.

Why safety expert Anders Axelson had to explain all that while riding the machine was just for our amusement. Possibly so his kids could tease him later. Volvo is all about safety, but you could not say the company lacks a sense of humor.

Visit Borton Volvo to test drive a safe new car, like the Volvo V60, or the XC70.
