The Lexus RX only offers a uniform 285 horsepower 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The Audi Q7 offers either a 261-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine or a 335-horsepower V6.
When it comes to fuel economy, the Volvo XC90 delivers up to 26/27 miles per gallon on city streets and highways. That beats out the BMW X5's 23/27 miles per gallon, the Lexus RX's 22/29 miles per gallon, and the Audi Q7's 20/26 miles per gallon.
Interior
The Volvo XC90 offers seating configurations for six or seven with a cargo capacity up to 15.8 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 85.7 cubic feet of total space with the seats folded down. You'll also enjoy plenty of headroom and legroom for passenger comfort on the road.
The BMW X5 is only a two-row, five-seat model, but it does offer a spacious rear cargo area of 33.9 cubic feet behind its second row seating. That expands up to about 72 cubic feet with the seats folded down. The Lexus RX, similarly, only offers seating for up to five with a max cargo capacity of 46.2 cubic feet with the seats folded. The Audi Q6 matches the Volvo XC90 in seating, with room for up to seven, but falls behind in cargo space. The Audi Q6 offers a maximum of 68.1 cubic feet of cargo room with all the seats folded down.

The Volvo XC90 offers a robust standard media suite, including an 11.2-inch infotainment touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, and a suite of Google-powered digital systems. You'll also enjoy access to a standard 14-speaker Harman Kardon sound system or an optional 19-speaker Bowers & Wilkins system.
The BMW X5 comes with a standard 12.3-inch display, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and a standard 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system. The Lexus RX offers a standard 9.8-inch infotainment touchscreen with an available 14-inch upgrade, along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 12-speaker sound system. The Audi Q7 utilizes a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen, along with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and a standard 10-speaker stereo sound system. To its credit, the Audi Q7 can be upgraded with an impressive 19-speaker or 23-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system.
Pricing
In terms of pricing, Minnetonka and Eden Prairie-area drivers can expect to pay around $62,000 for the base-level XC90. That's a bit more than the Lexus RX, which starts at around $51,000, but you're also getting a lot more in terms of space, performance, and features with the Volvo XC90. At the same time, the Volvo XC90 is going to cost less than the BMW X5 and Audi Q6, whose base models cost around just shy of $70,000 and $63,000, respectively. While the Audi Q7 matches the Volvo XC90 in terms of seating and the BMW X5 has a more powerful performance output, the Volvo XC90 offers a richer overall package for less.
